Be An Organic Detective

HOW DO I KNOW IF A PRODUCT IS TRULY ORGANIC?

5 ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF

1. Does the organic logo seal appear on this particular product?
You don't have to play the organic guessing game. If there is no organic certification agency logo on the product, it has NOT met any organic standards.

2. Is this product certified organic? THIRD-PARTY CERTIFIED
ORGANIC?
To be THIRD-PARTY CERTIFIED organic is dramatically different than "made with organic ingredients". Ignore "all natural and organic"claims if the product does NOT have the organic seal. The terms "natural and organic" are not governed and anyone can title their product organic
or natural - even if it not!

3. Who is the certification agency and do they certify cosmetics?
There are many types of organic certification agencies. Some agencies listed on cosmetic products have only certified some of the ingredients and other agencies allow synthetic ingredients, preservatives and animal byproducts to be used. Get to know your organic
certifiers by visiting their web sites and learn more about their certification standards.

4. What percentage of organic ingredients is in the FINAL product?
Some organic certifiers only require 10% organic content. Only high level certifiers like Nature et Progres require a minimum 95% organic content and 100% natural and unprocessed ingredients.

5. Are ALL the ingredients listed?
Note the order of ingredients. It is also crucial to check if the certifier requires the company to fully disclose ingredients in their products.

Education is the best form of organic empowerment!
